A spin-off of the prestigious Humboldt University in Berlin, greateyes has over 15 years experience in designing and constructing highly sensitive scientific CCD and sCMOS cameras. Depending on your spectral region of interest we can offer multiple sensor types deep cooled as low as -100°C which, along with our ultra-low noise electronics, ensures the highest sensitivity right where you need it.
Whether in-atmosphere or fully in vacuum, our high quantum efficiency cameras and detectors can reliably observe low flux phenomena, while our high dynamic range ensures that subtle differences are resolved.
At greateyes, we operate on a true partnership model with our OEM customers rather than a traditional supplier–customer relationship. From the earliest stages of a project, we work closely with our partners to understand technical requirements, application constraints, and long-term goals. This collaborative approach allows us to jointly define the optimal specification and ensure that the final solution is not only fit for purpose but also future-proof.
Our involvement doesn’t end at delivery. We continue to support and engage with our OEM partners throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring consistent performance, addressing evolving requirements, and identifying opportunities for improvement or enhancement. This ongoing collaboration helps ensure that our customers consistently achieve the best possible outcomes in their applications.
Working closely with OEM partners enables us to deliver highly tailored hardware solutions that go beyond standard camera configurations. Our engineering team can modify and optimise camera systems to meet specific performance, integration, and environmental requirements across a wide range of applications.
This includes custom sensor configurations, interface adaptations, housing modifications, cooling solutions, and optimised optical pathways where needed. We also support adjustments for size, weight, power consumption, and environmental resilience, ensuring seamless integration into complex systems. By maintaining full in-house control of design and manufacturing, we are able to iterate quickly, validate designs effectively, and deliver robust, application-specific hardware that aligns precisely with customer needs.
greateyes provides a comprehensive range of software development kits (SDKs), including support for widely used platforms such as Python, C/C++, LabVIEW, and other industry-standard environments. These tools enable straightforward integration of our imaging systems into existing workflows, custom software applications, and control architectures.
Beyond our standard SDK offerings, we also work directly with OEM partners to develop additional software functionality when application-specific requirements arise. This can include customised acquisition modes, advanced triggering schemes, real-time processing capabilities, and enhanced data handling or automation features. Our development approach ensures that software is not a limiting factor but rather an enabling layer that can be adapted to maximise system performance, streamline integration, and support highly specialised use cases.
Various flange types
For example CF DN160 with integrated exhaust tube for UHV applications
Hermetically sealed cameras
With water cooling only (no forced air cooling)
Specific labeling
Individual graphic design on the housing for OEM applications
Special window of filter materials
We provide all relevant window or filter materials attached to a camera-specific mount. For example: MgF2 or other quartz for the UV spectral range, and Beryllium for the X-ray range.
Specific software modules
Along with the greateyes Vision Software Suite and SDK, we provide and support a vast number of SDKs and drivers. If you need a specific software driver or if you require additional software features or functions please let us know. We will connect you to our software experts for further discussion.
Whether your experiment requires the beam to hit the sensor straight or at grazing incidence, the setup may not allow the sensor focal plane to be parallel to the camera flange. Our technical team has vast experience in customising the sensor position of the ALEX camera series. We can provide a wide range of sensor geometries to cover a broad range of use cases so please reach out to the greateyes team for a detailed discussion of your requirements.
Having the sensor close to the sample or target (e.g. to cover a solid angle in spectroscopy) can be challenging or – depending on the experimental setup – impossible to achieve with standard camera designs. In the case where an in-vacuum camera (LOTTE series) is too large to insert next to the sample in the vacuum chamber, we recommend the utilisation of a customised ALEX, CHARLIE or LOTTE camera with detached sensor.
All available sensor models are compatible with this solution. The compact and lightweight sensor unit incorporates thermoelectric cooling. In vacuum electrical connections (data and power) and water cooling hoses connect to the interface flange, with the main camera body sitting on the “air-side” of this flange. Cable and hose length can be fully customised as per your requirements. Please get it touch with our technical sales team for further information.
Our fully in-vacuum camera LOTTE allows free placement, allowing for the camera body dimensions, within the vacuum chamber. Is space even here, at an absolute premium? Our FLEX solution separates the camera electronics from the sensor to absolutely minimize the footprint of the detector; giving you a small, mobile sensor package.
The ALEX and LOTTE camera families are designed for versatile detection tasks under vacuum conditions. Most of the in-vacuum applications for these cameras are in the X-ray, EUV, or VUV spectral range. However, we are able to use UV, VIS and NIR optimised sensors in the ALEX and LOTTE camera ranges as well. Hence, if you are looking for a vacuum-compatible camera to detect UV, VIS, and/or NIR light, please share your request with us. We will be very happy to equip ALEX or LOTTE with the perfect sensor with the highest possible quantum efficiency for your application.
Our team of experts at greateyes are here to help every step of the way.
Remote diagnostics allow for an effective remote check of the camera before having to potentially return the camera to our factory in Berlin.
As well as offering repairs we also offer spare parts, software upgrades, training and the peace of mind that you can talk to our experts if the need arises.
